Host Lindsay Aerts breaks down why so many moms today are feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and like their failing. Author and speaker Ganel-Lyn Condie joins her to discuss how to define for yourself what it means to be a good mom. If you can create your own definition then when society, culture, and advertising bombards you with messaging about what motherhood is supposed to look like, then you already have your definition set. Lindsay explains how this is the key to combating the unrealistic, overwhelming pressures today's moms face. The Mom Show on KSL is hosted by Lindsay Aerts. Host Lindsay Aerts breaks down why so many moms today are feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and inadequate. Author and speaker Ganel-Lyn Condie joins her to discuss why we're a culture that doesn't like to feel negative emotion so we avoid, buffer, and mask it to try and feel better. In motherhood, there are many negative emotions that pop up and sitting with them allows us to trust our intuition. Lindsay and Ganel-Lyn hope listening to this segment and the three prior segments on this topic help moms feel empowered not to believe the many "good mothering" messaging today's moms face. Talking to your kids about sex can be intimidating. Host Lindsay Aerts talks with LDS Sex Therapist Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife about how to create a culture of openness around sex and sexuality so your kids will come to you with their questions. While sitting down with a child at a certain age to have "the birds and the bees" talk may be important, even more important may be creating a culture in your home where sex is viewed as healthy and good to be used in an appropriate way, not as shameful or bad. Our children will have natural, human sexual desire and it's our job to help them navigate those tricky emotions. Dr. Fife discusses what's appropriate to teach your kids about sex for different age levels, how to facilitate the conversations, how to still create an openness if abstinence before marriage is the goal, and whether or not it's too late to create this culture if you already have older children. You can get more information on Dr. Finlayson-Fife's work by visiting www.finlayson-fife.com. The Mom Show on KSL is hosted by Lindsay Aerts. Utah Valley Hospital in Utah County has been called the "baby factory" because so many new parents go their to deliver their babies. Because 1 in 7 women experience some form of postpartum mood disorder after giving birth, the hospital is proactively screening every new mom before sending her home to see if she has symptoms of postpartum depression or postpartum anxiety. Since implementing this policy, hospital staff has been able to catch - and treat - an additional six to ten cases each week.
