Host Lindsay Aerts sits down with baby sleep expert Marietta Paxson of LittleDreamers.us to discuss whether this may be making our jobs, like helping our kids fall asleep, harder and she gives some tips for why we should wait just a second to respond to them. Sleep. It's the ultimate need for parents of a newborn but it's often illusive in those first three to four months. Some experts recommend leaving your baby to fall asleep and letting them cry until they do. As a mom, this is one of the hardest things to listen to and some say it could affect attachment. Host Lindsay Aerts sits down with baby sleep expert Marietta Paxson of LittleDreamers.us to settle whether it's harmful for baby to let them cry it out. Host Lindsay Aerts sits down with baby sleep expert Marietta Paxson of LittleDreamers.us to talk about what you can do if you are going to co sleep with your baby. Women across the country, including host Lindsay Aerts, are applauding former First Lady Michelle Obama's decision to share her story about miscarriage and infertility in her new book Becoming. Miscarriage is “lonely, painful, and demoralizing,” Michelle Obama writes in her new memoir. Yet, by some estimates, it ends as many as 1 in 5 pregnancies before the 20-week mark. The former first lady’s disclosure that she and former President Barack Obama suffered from fertility issues, including losing a pregnancy, has sparked conversations about miscarriage, a common but also commonly misunderstood loss. Host Lindsay Aerts talks with the Director of Maternal Mental Health at The Healing Group about Mrs. Obama's comments not only about pregnancy loss but also about her marriage struggles being married to a then up-and-coming politician, Former President Barack Obama.

There are many misunderstandings about postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. Host Lindsay Aerts experienced postpartum anxiety and OCD and recalls the common, yet often misunderstood, symptom of scary or intrusive thoughts. She talks about a conversation she had with an elderly man who clearly just didn't understand that the thoughts were a symptom of an illness, not necessarily how she felt about her child. It's often described as ambivalence in motherhood, having strong conflicting feelings at the same time. And it's totally okay. Sometimes these look like thoughts of I love my child desperately and I am resentful of how much work it is to take care of her. I am grateful for a healthy pregnancy and I'm hating how much pain I'm in. This shows up so often for moms and can cause a lot of pain because we don't always allow ourselves to have negative feelings around motherhood relationships. Host Lindsay Aerts shares her conflicting feelings and talks with Dr. Jule Hanks of Wasatch Family Therapy and talks about what ambivalence is, why in our culture we don't always allow for it, and how to resolve some the guilt it may be causing.  The Mom Show on KSL is hosted by Lindsay Aerts.
