The birth of a mother. That is the definition of the word matrescence. It's the transition into motherhood described in the New York Times article, “Birth of a Mother”. Like adolescence, it is a transitionary period. Being pregnant is like going through puberty all over again: your hormones go nuts, your hair and skin don’t behave the way you’d like, and you develop a new relationship with a body that seems to have a mind of its own. Host Lindsay Aerts talks with the Director of the Healing Group, Monica Ashton about what this word means and how we can apply it as moms to give ourselves more grace, support, and understanding during this transition period. The Mom Show on KSL is hosted by Lindsay Aerts. KSL News Radio is part of Bonneville Media and based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Mom Show is also teaming up with Studio 5 for a Diaper Drive!  We are collecting unopened packages of diapers for women in shelters across the Wasatch Front who sometimes have nothing when they show up to the shelters because they're escaping domestic violence situations. Can you even imagine not having a diaper for your kid? What would you even do? You can help by donating to our Diaper Drive in one of two ways. Bring your package of diapers to KSL Broadcast House, Monday through Friday 9am  to 5pm at 55 North 300 West in Salt Lake City. Or, click this link http://bit.ly/BabyKSL to buy off the Amazon registry and have them prime shipped to KSL Broadcast House. That's as easy as clicking a few links! The diapers will be dispersed among the YWCA in Salt Lake, The Center for Women and Children in Crisis in Orem, and the YCC in Ogden. The Mom Show on KSL is hosted by Lindsay Aerts. Motherhood often looks different on the pages of social media than it does in real life. She's joined by Erin Jemison, Director of Public Policy for the YWCA Utah. They discuss an opinion piece in the Washington post about why we owe it to each other as moms to share the messy parts of motherhood.
