The Women's Resource Center at the University of Utah helps women (and men) with a plan, financial help, and resources to finish college. Host Lindsay Aerts talks with Utah's Morning News Host Amanda Dickson about her new podcast, A Gentle Thief. A Gentle Thief is a fictional podcast, written and performed by Amanda Dickson, inspired by real events involving the death of a young girl and her parents' desperate and relentless attempt to have her death certificate changed from suicide to homicide. Attorney Sophie Brownlie is given the case her first week with the law firm of Day Openshaw. She becomes passionate in her attempt to help the family prove that their daughter did not kill herself. But if she didn't, who did? Her ex-husband? Her new boyfriend, who had broken up with her just two days before she was found dead? Or is there someone else with a motive that isn't as clear? Sherree Lucas' water broke in her kitchen when she was 35 weeks pregnant. What happened next was scary, confusing, and a rush of emotions, and can be for the one in ten moms who have a baby before full term. Sherree now works for a company called Sera Prognostics a Salt Lake based company that provides a preterm birth test which pregnant mothers can take to help identify if they're at risk of going into early labor. Host Lindsay Aerts also talks with Aimee Nussbaum of the March of Dimes about what a mom can do to help prevent the risk of premature birth. Among other things, the March of Dimes helps provide resources to families who have been effected by a premature birth. They have a March for Babies walk coming up on May 19th at Sugarhouse Park. Being a stay-at-home mom comes with many advantages, lots of time with your kids, a flexible schedule, and the freedom to choose what you do with your day. Many moms who stay at home can also often feel like they are busy all day and still get nothing accomplished. It can feel like you're a hamster on a wheel, constantly spinning and never getting anywhere. Staying home may also feel isolating and mentally draining for many mothers. Running her own website while she takes care of two kids, ages two and nine months, can feel daunting but Britney talks about how she manages the time she has in her day.

You've been diagnosed with PPD, now what? Postpartum depression affects one in eight Utah moms and is the number one complication of childbirth. Host Lindsay Aerts has come up with a list of seven questions you should ask after being diagnosed with a postpartum mood disorder based off her own experience having gone through postpartum anxiety and OCD. This week Governor Herbert signed a resolution declaring postpartum depression and anxiety a public health issue in Utah. Host Lindsay Aerts talks with Erin Jemison, Director of Public Policy for the YWCA who helped draft some of the legislation, about some of the gaps they see in the system for mothers getting postpartum mental health care. Lindsay wants to see more of a protocol established for OB/GYN's and doctors to be trained on how to spot and treat the illnesses, Erin discusses what is being done to accomplish this at both the provider and legislative levels.

According to the CDC, maternal mortality ratesthe number of women dying during or within 1 year of childbirth—have reached 17.3/100,000 births in 2013. In the U.S., more than half of all maternal deaths occur after birth—often after discharge from the hospital. This doesn’t have to happen. In fact, at least half of all pregnancy-related deaths are preventable when the warning signs of pregnancy or childbirth complications emerge and a mom can get the timely care she needs from her healthcare providers. President of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, Jenn Doyle, talks with host Lindsay Aerts to critical share Post-Birth warning signs.
